A ten-12 months-old boy was suspended from his Pennsylvania heart college for violating the varsity’s weapons policy. Did he have an exact weapon on him? No, not as such. Johnny Jones used to be just pretending to fire a bow and arrow with a pencil. That acquired him suspended, but civil liberties workforce The Rutherford Institute (which introduced this to public attention) is helping Jones fight the suspension.

Two months in the past, Jones used to be in school, pretending to fire a bow and arrow at any other student in class. A 3rd pupil complained, and Jones used to be in an instant disciplined. And as The Rutherford Institute explains, this was in no way overblown.

The teacher then contacted Johnny’s mom, Beverly Jones, alerting her to the “seriousness” of the violation for the reason that kids have been the use of “firearms” in their horseplay, and informing her that the subject had been pointed out the Fundamental. Primary John Horton contacted Ms. Jones quickly thereafter in order to inform her that Johnny’s habits was once a serious offense that might result in expulsion beneath the school’s weapons policy. Horton characterized Johnny’s transgression as “making a danger” to another pupil the use of a “duplicate or representation of a firearm” thru the usage of an imaginary bow and arrow.

And this incident used to be just one month after some other school suspended a scholar for playing with a toy gun in his own yard, nowhere close to the college.
