A grand jury in Texas declined to indict Houston Texans quarterback DeShaun Watson on Monday, prompting ESPN’s Adam Schefter to declare “the truth” has come out.
Predictably, Schefter was once completely hammered with the aid of Twitter customers.
The grand jury used to be introduced with evidence in 9 of the 10 criminal complaints filed in opposition to Watson in Harris County, as prosecutors declined to existing the tenth. Watson nonetheless faces complaints from 22 ladies alleging misconduct that includes sexual harassment and sexual assault.
“After a Harris County grand jury was once offered the entire proof and had the chance to listen to from all witnesses, grand jurors declined to indict Deshaun Watson,” the Harris County District Lawyer’s Administrative center, stated. “Grand jury proceedings are secret via law, so no information associated to their inquiry may be disclosed.”
Schefter hailed the decision and praised Watson for having “welcomed a police investigation.”

Obviously, a grand jury identifying to not bring costs against does not mean “the truth” has been determined. All it displays is that the grand jury made up our minds the evidence presented was once inadequate to maintain an indictment. It must even be stated that even an acquittal (or a responsible verdict) at trial just isn’t a verdict on the reality per se, but the reflection of the proof offered and the jury’s evaluate of it.
Schefter’s lack of understanding, alongside his glowing reward of Watson for welcoming an investigation, did not go over smartly on Twitter.
