Journalist Dmitry Muratov auctioned his Nobel Peace Prize on Monday for a file $103.5 million to help Ukrainian kids.

The money went to UNICEF’s child refugee fund, consistent with Heritage Auctions, which carried out the public sale ofMuratov’s prize. It’s going to help Ukrainian youngsters refugees amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In October, Muratov, along with journalist Maria Ressa, gained the 2021 peace prize.

In 1993, Muratov co-based the unbiased newspaper Novaja Gazeta, where he is editor-in-chief. In March, the e-newsletter halted its operations because of Russian censorship.

“Novaja Gazeta’s opponents have spoke back with harassment, threats, violence, and murder. Since the newspaper’s begin, six of its journalists have been killed, together with Anna Politkovskaya who wrote revealing articles on the conflict in Chechnya,” in keeping with the Norwegian Nobel Committee in October.
