NBC’s Lester Holt raised the possibility that prosecuting former President Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol attack might “tear the u . s . a . apart” right through an interview with Lawyer Normal Merrick Garland.

Holt shared the concern in a preview clip of his conversation with Garland in an effort to air Tuesday on NBC Nightly News.

Garland has not dominated out the likelihood Trump can be charged with a criminal offense.

Jan. 6 befell in the hours after the previous president addressed supporters sooner than the Capitol was stormed – and after two months of him telling his supporters the election was once stolen from them.

Holt mentioned to Garland throughout their interview:

You stated in no unsure terms the other day that nobody is above the legislation. That said, the indictment of a former president, or perhaps candidate for president, would arguably tear the country aside. Is that your subject as you’re making your choice down the street right here, do you must take into consideration things like that?

Garland doubled down on his earlier statement.

“Look, we pursue justice with out fear or choose,” Garland said. “We intend to carry everyone, any person who was once criminally liable for the situations surrounding Jan. 6, for any try to interfere with the lawful switch of energy from one administration to another, in charge. That’s what we do.”

Garland added the Justice Division will not pay “any consideration” to “different concerns” apart from its mission to pursue justice.

“So, if Donald Trump have been to transform a candidate for president again, that may no longer trade your time table or how you progress forward or don’t move ahead?” Holt replied.

“I’ll say again that we will hang guilty any person who is criminally responsible for making an attempt to interfere with the switch, respectable, lawful switch of power, from one administration to the subsequent,” Garland answered.
