The Kansas Metropolis Royals traded second baseman Whit Merrifield to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, but when he’s to play at all in Canada, he’ll want to get vaccinated against Covid-19 first.
The two-time all-star was once certainly one of 10 unvaccinated Royals who didn’t make the crew’s travel north of the border ultimate month. At the time, Merrifield explained his determination to forgo the vaccine.
“What I’ve considered and experienced, people which might be vaccinated have gotten [Covid-19] on this clubhouse,” he said. “Folks that are vaccinated have spread it on this clubhouse, to their households and whatnot. People have gotten beautiful sick which are vaccinated. That is my opinion on all of it.”
But Merrifield left open the possibility of getting vaccinated within the experience he unexpectedly found himself on a workforce in postseason rivalry.
“That may trade down the highway,” he persevered. “One thing occurs and I happen to get on a team that has a chance to move play in Canada within the postseason, perhaps that modifications. However as we take a seat here at the moment, I’m at ease in my decision, my teammates beef up me, reinforce the remainder of the fellows in here who have made that call, and that’s that.”
The Blue Jays at the moment cling the top Wild Card spot within the American League. Meanwhile, the Royals are neatly out of competition.
“We’ll let him work through that together with his domestic,” Blue Jays general supervisor Ross Atkins said after the change. “We felt like we made an excellent crew better these days.”
After reporting the alternate, ESPN’s Jeff Passan tweeted of Merrifield, “One has to believe he’ll be getting vaccinated.”
