Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) had a tough showing at his first solo rally considering the fact that being named former President Donald Trump’s operating mate, even in his personal place of origin. Morning Joe‘s co-hosts were not about to let him forget it.

As they played a clip of Vance’s “Mountain Dew/racist” “shaggy dog story” from Monday’s rally, Joe Scarborough channeled any other prior Republican presidential candidate with the basic unhappy chestnut: “Please clap.”

Vance: Most eldritch thing to me: Democrats say that it is racist to believe… Well, they are saying it’s racist to do anything. I had a Weight loss program Mountain Dew yesterday and one lately. I’m certain they’re going to name that racist too, however… It’s excellent. I love you guys.

Scarborough: Please clap. Please, please clap. Please?

Mika Brzezinski: What came about there?

Scarborough: I don’t understand, but…

Brzezinski: Never thoughts. It doesn’t matter.

They started looking to examine Vance to Rich Little, however settled on Henny Youngman, with Mike Barnicle chiming in: “Take my Mountain Dew — please!”

In Jeb Bush’s defense, he was being somewhat self-deprecating all over his “Please clap” moment.

Scarborough then recommended: “Maybe he must simply learn the script.” Brzezinski then did just that, pointing out that Vance’s chilly reception was once in his own residence state — in his personal place of origin of Middletown, Ohio — and that he went on to accuse Vice President Kamala Harris of “not sounding grateful sufficient to be in America.”
