(USATODAY) — Richard Overton survived Pearl Harbor, fought at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, has lived to be 107 years previous — and on Monday earned a standing ovation led via the commander in chief, President Obama. “This is the existence of 1 American veteran — residing proud and powerful within the land he helped maintain free,” Obama informed an appreciative crowd right through a Veterans Day handle at Arlington Nationwide Cemetery in Virginia. Overton, who had met Obama prior in the day at a White Home breakfast, mentioned all the way through a brief telephone interview that he used to be honored via the attention. “It went all right,” Overton said. “I am hoping he retains on speaking some excellent phrases about me.”
