Bowing to political pressure, Obama unveils fix on healthcare

By Steve Holland and Susan Cornwell WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama bowed to political power over his signature healthcare reform on Thursday, saying that he would allow insurers to extend insurance policies that have been canceled for one year even if they don’t agree to the regulation. The October 1 rollout of the program referred to as Obamacare has been beset through technical problems with the main website online and cancellations of present insurance policies as a result of they do not meet the higher standards of the 2010 healthcare legislation referred to as Obamacare. Obama said on Thursday that to repair the problem of some medical health insurance coverage cancellations given that on-line marketplaces opened, insurers might renew these plans for a 12 months. The move used to be based on a tide of anger from Republicans and fellow Democrats that Obama was once now not gratifying his usual promise that people who like their current health plans would be capable of keep them underneath Obamacare.
