Republican Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) slammed comic Tony Hinchcliffe for a shaggy dog story Scott said “bombed for a reason” Sunday at the Trump rally at New York Metropolis’s Madison Square Backyard.

Scott mentioned the joke “bombed” and entreated his followers to spend their tourism dollars on the island and US territory.

In the hours after Hinchcliffe attracted backlash for equating Puerto Rico with “garbage,” Scott took to X, previously Twitter, and shared a file about the backlash on it from The Hill.

“This comic story bombed for a purpose,” the senator commented. “It’s now not funny and it’s now not true. Puerto Ricans are superb individuals and wonderful Americans! I’ve been to the island time and again. It’s a stupendous place. Everyone must seek advice from! I’ll at all times do no matter I will be able to to assist any Puerto Rican in Florida or on the island.”

Hinchcliffe was warming up a crowd in Long island hours prior to former President Donald Trump used to be scheduled to talk when he took purpose at the island territory.

“Republicans are the birthday celebration with the good humorousness,” the comic stated. “I don’t be aware of when you guys be aware of this, but there is actually a floating island of rubbish in the course of the ocean right now. I believe it’s called Puerto Rico?”

In the hours after Hinchliffe’s comic story, Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin shared a clip of it on his Instagram story and advised his followers to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris:

Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny didn’t point out Hinchcliffe’s joke specifically however did share a video of Harris vowing to maintain the territory on his Instagram story Sunday evening for his forty five.6 million followers.
