MSNBC host Rachel Maddow laughed out loud at Trump Chief of Staff Susie Wiles over her safeguard of Pete Hegseth — President-go with Donald Trump’s embattled nominee for safety secretary — and his lack of managerial experience.
Hegseth’s nomination has been endangered via bombshells like a rape allegation, and the revelation of a 2018 email from Penelope Hegseth to her son by which she called him “an abuser of ladies,” a devastating whistleblower record, his own past statements, and considerations about his lack of expertise in a equivalent position.
But the route has cleared slightly in the past a few weeks beforehand of his Senate Armed Services and products Committee affirmation hearing Tuesday.
On Monday night’s variation of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Convey, hours prior to that listening to, Maddow couldn’t suppress a laugh at an “superb” quote from a Wiles profile in The New York Occasions:
MADDOW: “The New York Occasions” did a profile this weekend of incoming White House Chief of Team of workers Susie Wiles. And for the duration of interviewing her for that profile, they requested Susie Wiles what exactly makes Pete Hegseth certified for this job.
Led to this quite fantastic paragraph in their latest profile of her — quote — “Hegseth, a defense force veteran who has been accused by means of a woman of sexual assault, which he denied, has no expertise major an agency of virtually three million folks.”
Quote: “‘That’s what personnel is for,’” Ms. Wiles mentioned briskly.”
Yes, we don’t want a safety secretary who can run the Security Division — quote — “That’s what personnel is for.” The little people…
(LAUGHTER)
MADDOW: … they may be able to do it.
I’m not positive which is a better take on things from the Trump transition, right, that line from Trump’s incoming White House chief of team of workers. Oh, he won’t be capable of do it, however the little folks, the body of workers, whoever they’re, they will run that thing. Doesn’t subject that he can’t do it.
I don’t understand what’s better, that line from Susie Wiles, White Home chief of body of workers beneath Trump coming in, or Hegseth himself announcing that, if he does get proven to this job, he guarantees he’s going to stop with all the drinking. If he doesn’t get proven, well, hey. But when he does get validated, he’s promising he will wrap up this whole ingesting factor, and so we no longer must fear about all of the dozens of claims from his previous jobs of him consuming on the job.
He says he’s going to quit. I’m positive he’s going to.
I’m no longer certain which is a better case to the American folks for this is the precise guy for safeguard secretary, but they’re trying them both.
Remember, though, simply preserve it in viewpoint, understand that this nomination, the Hegseth nomination, represents the top of performance so far from the Trump transition. This is their highest effort. This is the one one in all their nominees for whom they have if truth be told been in a position to get it together sufficient to hold a hearing.
That is the staff can run it if he can’t and he’s going to cease drinking if he gets the job. This represents the most effective that they may be able to do. And this is the extent of efficiency they are demonstrating for the American people even ahead of they have got accountability for governing.
So, yes, we will watch what they do and now not just what they say any longer and for the first a hundred days and for the length.
But it is worth announcing and being real about the truth that what they are pronouncing thus far and what they’re doing so far have each been completely shambolic. And none of us must be afraid to claim so. And none of us here are.
