Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) blasted Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for defending President Donald Trump’s pardons of 1,500 people connected to the Capitol rebellion.

Kinzinger served on the Home January 6 choose committee that investigated Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, which culminated in a pro-Trump mob storming the Capitol.

“We imagine in redemption,” Johnson said at a press conference on Wednesday. “We believe in 2nd possibilities.” He delivered that the Republican-managed House won’t “seem backwards” at Trump’s pardons.

Yet on the comparable presser, the speaker vowed to investigate pardons that former President Joe Biden gave to members of his family.

“It was surprising,” he stated. “What President Biden did on his method out, pardoning his family for a decade of any activity, any non-violent [activity]. It used to be breathtaking to us. I don’t think the rest like that’s been expected.”

Johnson said that the House “will probably be looking at it.”

Hours later, Kinzinger seemed on AC360 on CNN to voice his outrage at Johnson:

So, I’m conversing as a Christian right here. I saw Speaker Johnson say, “We imagine in redemption.”

How dare you use the Bible in this? First off, the big key on redemption is repentance. All these individuals you noticed… have no repentance. Actually, they think what they did is correct. And look, Pam Hemphill, who in fact is rejecting the pardon, she has real repentance for this.

And then, by way of the way in which, Hunter Biden, who was in truth repentant of the things he did, spent two years being attacked for political functions. I mean, don’t talk about repentance, Speaker Johnson. Protect this.
Go out and defend that there’s these criminals out on the road now. Try this. I’ll respect [you] when you do it. All these Republicans, go on the document and say you trust this, but don’t come right here with repentance to me.
