California Democrat and former House Intel Committee member Rep. Eric Swalwell stated Sunday that congressional Republicans “act as a legislation firm” for Donald Trump and are providing defenses the ex-president “doesn’t even want.”
Swalwell joined MSNBC’s Medhi Hasan on Sunday to speak about the legal indictment of Trump and the reactions to it from Republicans in congress, akin to Sen. Lindsey Graham’s on This Week and Rep. Jim Jordan’s on CNN’s State of the Union.
Hasan requested Swalwell whether the “so-called ‘tricky on crime’ birthday celebration” was once telling criminals to “simply run for president” with their objections to the prosecution of Trump, and Swalwell brought that the GOP is “the celebration of law and disorder, now.”
“And if truth be told, they work as a legislation agency for Donald Trump, with Jim Jordan being the managing partner,” mentioned Swalwell. “And what’s so striking to me, although, is, and I’ve seen this sooner than as a prosecutor, is that they’re offering Donald Trump defenses that he doesn’t even need!”
“I’ve heard, you know, so a variety of defenses from Lindsey Graham and Jim Jordan, you recognize, about, you know, the Nationwide Archives and the Presidential Information Act,” he mentioned. “But on the end of the day, what Donald Trump is announcing is, ‘if I did it, it’s legal, as a result of I did it.’ And that pertains to everything. ‘It’s a really perfect telephone name after I shake down President Zelensky as a result of I’m the one who made the telephone name.’”
Swalwell, who tweeted memes on Saturday about his own removing from the Intel committee, rhetorically asked what stands out as the different to prosecution.
“What was once the FBI and the Department of Justice to do? To just allow Mar-a-Lago to continue to function like a Barnes & Noble, where any one might are available in and take a look at categorized paperwork that Donald Trump had in his possession?” he said.
