Ohio’s Republican governor utterly knocked down the claims of his personal birthday celebration’s vice presidential nominee, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), about Haitian migrants eating family pets in Springfield, OH.
In an interview with Martha Raddatz on ABC’s This Week, Gov. Mike Dewine (R-OH) utterly denied that there is any proof of migrants eating canine and cats.
“Here’s a query I by no means concept I must ask,” Raddatz stated. “However do you see any proof, as governor of the state, that Haitian immigrants are consuming pets?”
“No, absolutely no longer!” Dewine spoke back. “That’s what the mayor has said. That’s what the manager of police has stated. I think it’s unlucky that this came up.”
The governor introduced that the Haitian migrants are prison, that they got here to the realm to work, and the companies who hire them record they have got been stellar staff.
Raddatz proceeded to ask Dewine how he would tackle the comments from his birthday party’s usual bearer — former President Donald Trump — who, like Vance, has been peddling the baseless claims.
“What would you say to Donald Trump for mentioning these baseless tales?” Raddatz requested. “Is it answerable for a presidential candidate, a former president of the US, to make these baseless claims?”
“Appear, there’s various rubbish on the web and, you already know, it is a piece of garbage that used to be merely no longer true,” Dewine replied. “There’s no proof of this at all.”
Raddatz pressed to take a look at and get Dewine to comment immediately on Trump. Dewine did not acquiesce, so the ABC News host pressed further.
“You had threats there in Springfield,” Raddatz stated. “Hospitals needed to shut. Faculties had to shut as a result of bomb threats. You were a huge supporter of JD Vance. He spread this conspiracy. Eleven million folks noticed it on X. Is there a connection between threats to your state and what President Trump stated and what J.D. Vance is doing online?”
“I believe these discussions about Haitians eating dogs and cats and other issues wants to forestall,” Dewine said. “We need to focal point on what’s vital … this his concept that we’ve got hate groups coming in … this discussion just has to forestall. We want to center of attention on moving forward and no longer canine and cats being eaten. It’s simply ridiculous.”
Raddatz requested, “Also, on Tuesday night time [during the presidential debate], Trump refused to simply accept, again, the 2020 election outcomes. He informed false stories, as you seen, and falsely claimed that he ordered National Protect troops, 10,000 protect troops, on January 6th. So how do you square all of this along with your strengthen for Donald Trump. Has it softened by any means?”
“Look, I said prior to we knew who the nominee was once going to be, I might toughen the Republican nominee for president,” Dewine stated. “I am a Republican.I believe if you happen to have a look at the economic system considerations, and these are considerations that I believe the American persons are most all in favour of, I think that Donald Trumpis your best choice.”
“So, you may propose him to keep talking about that and now not pets in Ohio?” Raddatz asked.
“I feel you must – in case you talk about issues that folks truly care about and the issues that are necessary and things that a president can have an actual impact.
Now, he may additionally discuss – and of course he does and – and both candidates do, all 4 candidates do, about immigration. Appear, there’s – these are authentic problems that we have on the border. I’m now not minimizing that in any respect. And people are authentic arguments where the vast majority of the American people agree with Donald Trump and no longer the – and not the vp.
But what’s occurring in Springfield is solely essentially totally different. These individuals are right here legally. They came to work. These are – these are excellent folks.”
