‘Big Implications for Ethics Cases’: Politico Reporter Warns House GOP Rules Package Would Gut Investigations

Nicholas Wu, a congressional correspondent for Politico, referred to on Twitter Monday that “tucked” away within the House Republican Rules package was once a section that will successfully gut the Place of job of Congressional Ethics.

Wu wrote, “within the House Republican Rules package deal – a provision tucked into its section on the Place of business of Congressional Ethics would successfully sack lots of the Democratic-appointed board participants by instituting term limits and make it so much tougher to hire group of workers.”

Wu then shared a picture from the rules package deal of the relevant part, which learn:

(6) any member of the board at the moment serving a term in way over the constraints of part 1(b)(6) of such resolution will likely be regarded as as removed from the board; and

(7) the availability relating to appointment and compensation of team of workers shall require an affirmative vote of as a minimum 4 contributors of the board now not later than 30 calendar days after the date of the adoption of this decision.

He added, “This may have big implications for ethics instances that would come before OCE in the beginning of the new Congress – like an investigation into Republican contributors related to Jan. 6, or Rep-decide on George Santos.”
