Bob Costas confronted backlash Monday night for appearing to show bias toward the New York Yankees of their playoff sport in opposition to the Kansas Metropolis Royals.
In the backside of the eighth inning, the Yankees trailed four-1 with outfielder Aaron Choose on first base and designed hitter Giancarlo Stanton at bat. A softly hit ground ball to Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. allowed the Royals to show a double play and end any hopes of a Yankees rally.
“Hit to quick,” Costas mentioned. “Witt gets the power [at second base]. Can they turn two? Sure, they may be able to, and it’s just the point we were making. It’s no longer Giancarlo’s fault. A near base hit. Couldn’t beat it out on the other ends. Turns into a double play.”

While calling the play, Costas had a great tone shift when the Royals completed the double play. To many, he even gave the impression saddened by way of it.
For a broadcast on a nationally televised recreation, that was once deemed unacceptable.
“I’m no longer a Royals fan or a Yankees fan,” analyst Matt Williams said in a tweet. “However what hell is this INSANE bias from Bob Costas? He must be replaced. He’s audibly disgusted.”
I’m not a Royals fan or a Yankees fan.
But what hell is this INSANE bias from Bob Costas? He must be replaced.
He’s audibly disgusted.

That was once far from the only criticism Costas received on-line.
This might be the worst commentary I’ve ever heard. Bob Costas is a joke, how can you have a clear Yankees fan commentating a playoff recreation on nationwide TV? Do higher @tntsports https://t.co/pCjGjJS7OT

This is in actuality unprofessional by Bob Costas and MLB must now not let him call to any extent further playoff video games. At the least no longer if the Yankees are concerned. That is severely ridiculous for a national broadcast to be this certainly biased towards one workforce despite context or narrative. https://t.co/PbvbsCOjHl

Actually zero mention of the distinguished play from one of the most easiest gamers in the sport.
This might be the variation in the recreation and Bob Costas is unhappy about it.
Please tell me I’m now not the one one listening to this… https://t.co/4x8t5ZGSpd

Costas appears like he’s sporting a Yankees hat in the sales space. Noticed it with Eisen against the Vikings on Sunday too. These New York guys in reality can’t help themselves once they’re calling a New York game. https://t.co/PD6QvXZzZY

Bob Costas couldn't be more disillusioned on this double play https://t.co/3s1oRkJynE
