Asked through MSNBC’s Lindsey Reiser about the arrest, Maloney stated lawmakers had an obligation to put “our own bodies on the line” because the overturning of Roe v. Wade manner “ladies don’t have any democracy.”
We had been protesting the overturning of Roe V. Wade, and I might say that women don’t have any democracy. There’s no democracy unless we can make selections over our personal our bodies, together with health care and reproductive well being care. I represent a state where abortion rights are safe and respected, but 33 million American ladies are about to lose those rights or have already lost these rights. The least that we could do is put our personal bodies on the line to protest what’s happening. Many of us had been there protesting. A few of us had been arrested.
Maloney also touted a bill she has co-subsidized which would protect any potential future rules against contraception, codifying get admission to to contraception with no consideration.
Reiser asked Maloney whether or not there have been more plans by using her and different lawmakers for future “civil disobedience” just like the protest outside the Supreme Court.
“Congresswoman, do you have any plans — we were chatting with one in all your colleagues in our ultimate hour. She called it civil disobedience. Do you’ve gotten any other plans to carry attention to this issue?” she requested.
“After all. Keep tuned,” Maloney teased, including later, “we want what we call the drum beat. Raising the attention, showing that we’re fighting, exhibiting what’s at stake.”
