Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie condemned primary rival Nikki Haley’s remarks in regards to the Civil Conflict and slavery on Thursday, although stated that he didn’t believe Haley had “a racist bone in her body.”

All the way through a New Hampshire city hall of his own on Thursday, Christie addressed Haley’s controversial feedback in Berlin, New Hampshire the day prior.

“If any individual asked me what the cause of the Civil Battle was, it’s simple. It’s slavery,” declared Christie, who introduced that while he had stood up for Haley in the past “as a result of she’s been my friend for 13 years,” he could no longer protect her on this instance:

She didn’t say what she said closing night time and nowadays about this as a result of she’s dumb. She’s now not, she’s good and he or she knows higher. And she or he didn’t say it as a result of she’s a racist, because she’s not. I do know her well and I don’t imagine Nikki has a racist bone in her physique. Christie argued that if Haley is “unwilling to stand up and say that slavery is what brought about the Civil Warfare as a result of she’s frightened of offending constituents in some other a part of the country,” she would be in a similar fashion unwilling to face up for the u . s . a . as president.

“She’s now not a racist, it’s worse in some respects,” he persisted. “When you need to be president, it’s worse so as to be dishonest with people, and that’s what’s happening right here, she’s maintaining again.”

Christie concluded, “I’m sure Nikki will see this, so I need to discuss straight away to her, k. The Civil Struggle used to be no longer a decision between trade and custom. It was a decision between right and wrong, and that’s it, and we bought to face on the aspect of right.”

Requested all the way through a city hall in Berlin, New Hampshire on Wednesday, “What used to be the reason for america Civil Struggle?” Haley spoke back, “I mean, I feel the cause of the Civil War used to be mainly how executive was gonna run. The freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do.”

After her comments got heavy backlash, Haley stated on Thursday, “Of course, the Civil Conflict was once about slavery. We all know that that’s unquestioned. At all times the case. We all know the Civil Warfare used to be about slavery. Nevertheless it was also more than that. It was concerning the freedoms of each particular person. It was once about the role of presidency.”
