CNN anchor Chris Wallace dumped in all places former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie‘s suggestion that President Joe Biden “sell” an off-ramp to Vladimir Putin, and stated that while Biden’s nuclear Armageddon commentary used to be “silly,” his general strategy has been “beautiful good.”
Wallace used to be a guest on Friday evening’s variation of HBO’s Real Time with Invoice Maher, and joined the “Time beyond regulation” segment with Maher, Christie, and Katty Kay.
The panel agreed, to various levels, that Biden’s remarks about our closeness to “nuclear Armageddon” were not best. But Wallace led the others in ganging up on Christie when he instructed Biden can be “selling” Putin an “off-ramp”:
BILL MAHER: Neatly, what would you do about it? What is that this resolution? oKay, so we’re in an alternative universe now. Chris Christie is president. He doesn’t use this terminology, but he has the answer.
CHRIS CHRISTIE: Neatly, first.
BILL MAHER: I’m all ears.
CHRIS CHRISTIE: I’m so, so satisfied to have your attention. You’ve obtained to stop by way of. What he should be doing is he will have to be enjoying a constructive function between Zelensky and Putin. Putin is aware of he’s shedding. Putin’s not silly. He is aware of he’s losing. You’ve received to give him an exit ramp. He’s received to find a way to get out without saving face.
BILL MAHER: But that’s a nonstarter as a result of.
KATTY KAY: He has exit ramps, he’s got you realize, he’s flush with money from the excessive oil costs, he’s about to bring on another 300,000 troops. He controls the state media. He can call this a win at any moment that he needs to name it a win. So he’s selecting not to take the exit ramp. I don’t think there’s any negotiation, especially now, to be achieved between Zelensky and Putin in particular.
CHRIS CHRISTIE: Yeah, I disagree.
KATTY KAY: Smartly, Zelensky. The exit ramp can be some lodging the place he gets some territory in Ukraine. And Zelensky isn’t going to move for that.
CHRIS CHRISTIE: They’ll go for allowing them to keep Crimea.
BILL MAHER: Smartly, that’s kind of a performed deal. That was annexed in 2014…
CHRIS CHRISTIE: Smartly, but that’s some territory in Ukraine. I’ve bought to head in there and check out to promote it, man. Don’t be like set your hair on fire and yelling about nuclear Armageddon unless you’re gonna come forward with a solution…
CHRIS WALLACE: However, you’re blaming Biden for Putin’s what Putin is doing.
CHRIS CHRISTIE: I’m blaming Biden for announcing nuclear Armageddon.
CHRIS WALLACE: But yes, but that you would be able to’t blame him for the failure of a Putin to take off ramp after off ramp that has been offered to him…
CHRIS CHRISTIE: I didn’t. I just don’t need…
CHRIS WALLACE: No. You’re saying. Neatly, no, you’ve got to go in and sell it. No.
CHRIS CHRISTIE: Entering into and make a solution.
CHRIS WALLACE: Putin doesn’t wish to go off ramp at this point and there’s nothing you are able to do about it. And albeit, I feel Biden has treated I don’t agree. I believe Armageddon was a stupid statement. But you’ve received to deal with this as well as which you can. And at this time, bloodying his nose and pushing back in where they are for Zelen– for Ukraine. Beautiful excellent strategy.
KATTY KAY: Yeah. Biden’s accomplished a good job on this.
