Democratic New York Congressman Dan Goldman agreed with SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah that Home Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has “evidently crossed over” the line to “criminal obstruction.”
Goldman has been critical of Jordan and the Republicans for a collection of moves attacking Long island District Attorney Alvin Bragg. and “interfering” with the case in opposition to former President Donald Trump involving hush cash payments to grownup leisure entrepreneur Stormy Daniels.
Right through Monday night’s model of The Dean Obeidallah Express, the host requested Goldman to give an explanation for the road between reliable congressional oversight and felony obstruction — in addition to the place Jordan falls on that continuum — and Goldman did not hesitate:
DEAN OBEIDALLAH: He’s in truth served the subpoena. Consistent with the reporting ultimate week on Mark Pomerantz, a former assistant district lawyer, introduced in almost like a different suggestions to research Donald Trump all over Cy Vance’s term. And he even rumored to speak about looking to convey Alvin Bragg in, who’s pushed back and referred to as it intimidation.
Just so people can keep in mind, where is the line between Congress doing what can be appropriate, let’s say, and you’re in truth crossing into potentially felony obstruction of justice?
REP. DAN GOLDMAN: Well, it’s a crucial line that Jim Jordan has lovely clearly crossed over. And I think for 2 different causes.
The primary is in accordance with the public reporting. Jim Jordan, and most likely Kevin McCarthy and others, are essentially colluding with Donald Trump to intervene and interfere in — for Congress to intervene and intervene in an ongoing investigation. Donald Trump is essentially the use of the House Republicans as his taxpayer-funded criminal safety staff, and they are now utterly outside of their jurisdiction. There is no foundation for them to intervene in an ongoing prison investigation and prosecution on the state stage. It’s no longer even a federal topic here. It’s a state level.
And what they are so transparently doing is attempting to help Donald Trump for political purposes, which is completely outside the bounds of any authentic use of congressional authority. So that is a ways, far past their jurisdiction, and it’s a gross abuse of energy.
The irony now not simplest of Jim Jordan, who defied a congressional subpoena himself, issuing congressional subpoenas, is possibly best outdone via his own weaponization subcommittee, where he’s claiming that Democrats have weaponized the federal government when he is a hundred% weaponizing Congress to intervene in Donald Trump’s legal prosecution.
Watch above by way of The Dean Obeidallah Show.
