Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) requested FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell if she or her agency “controls the climate” or “sends hurricanes” to areas in keeping with political considerations at a hearing this week.

Fired FEMA employee Marn’i Washington was dismissed for telling staff in Florida to skip Trump properties all over the Storm Milton restoration effort — but Washington says she used to be following orders, and that her guide was a short lived “avoidance and de-escalation” measure. Right through Hurricane Helen, reduction work was delayed on account of an “armed militia” hunting FEMA employees.

The Home Oversight and Accountability Committee held a listening to this week on FEMA’s response to hurricanes that centered primarily on the incident.

However when Rep. Krishnamoorthi’s flip to query Administrator Criswell came visiting, he used part of his time to mock conspiracy theories that were spread by means of Republicans, together with about “controlling the climate”:

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: Thanks, Chairman, and thanks, Administrator, to your provider. I want to express you a visible. Do you recognize this image?

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: I do not.

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: Just right. It’s an atmospheric research facility in Alaska that, believe it or no longer, conspiracy theorists allege is a mind-controlling climate desktop. And probably the most conspiracy theories in the market is that by some means FEMA controls the weather. And I guess that you as the administrator don’t control the climate, right?

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: I do not control the weather.

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: And you don’t use secret machines to regulate hurricanes to target sure locations in america, proper?

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: Correct.

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: And also you and your team did not direct severe weather at North Carolina to quote unquote, “commandeer lithium mine property” in that state. Right.

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: Why would anyone need to carry harm to the American people?

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: And you would not direct severe weather to focus on someone of a selected political birthday celebration, proper?

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: By no means.

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: You’re no longer organising FEMA camps to detain folks or enact martial law, proper?

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: Perfect.

REP. RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI: These are all conspiracy theories that you just’ve had to care for. I’m satisfied that you’ve got addressed them in this forum.

Now, let me talk about stuff that’s true. It’s genuine that throughout Hurricanes Leon and Milton, FEMA assisted greater than 35,000 households with disaster relief. Proper?

ADMINISTRATOR DEANNE CRISWELL: That number sounds about right.
