Former CNN senior political analyst and anchor John Avlon gained the Democratic major for New York’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday.

Avlon – who introduced his departure from CNN in February – defeated Nancy Goroff with more than 70% of the vote. The former CNN analyst will face Republican incumbent Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY) in the 2024 election.

Mediaite first realized of Avlon’s intentions to run for Congress simply days after he introduced his exit from CNN. Avlon established the news that same month.

“We wish to build the broadest conceivable coalition to defeat Donald Trump, defend our democracy, and win back the Home from his MAGA minions who don’t even appear interested by fixing problems anymore,” he said all through a video saying his candidacy. “Democrats can’t afford to lose this fight.”

Prior to his at CNN, Avlon worked because the editor-in-chief of the Day by day Beast and as a speechwriter for former New York Metropolis Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

In recent years, Avlon has time and again criticized Giuliani, and remaining 12 months he described his former boss’ feedback in regards to the 2020 election as “unforgivable.”

Avlon has authored several books in favor of centrism, including Impartial Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics and Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking The usa.
