The U.S. media was once inundated on Wednesday with wild speculation about who will, or worse, should run for president in 2024.

The New York Times‘ Thomas Friedman argued for an Israeli-type centrism in the form of a bipartisan Biden-Cheney ticket, while within the Wall Street Journal, Doug Schoen and Andrew Stein declared 2024 is poised for a Hillary Clinton comeback.

Whereas Friedman was once roundly mocked for his op-ed and Twitter delighted in the concept of “time period limits” for columnists, the Wall Street Journal op-ed found a happy residence at Fox News.

In keeping with a search of SnapStream’s feed of all Fox News presentations on Wednesday, the network had talked about Hillary running in 2024 in at the least seven segments before 8pm ET.

Fox & Pals, The Faulkner Focus, Outnumbered, The us Stories, The Story with Martha MacCallum, The 5, and Fox News Prime Time had all talked about the article – and that was prior to the community’s prime time stars came on the air.

On rival networks, only MSNBC’s Way Too Early with Jonathan Lemire covered the article, while CNN didn’t point out it, consistent with a SnapStream search.

As for the article itself, CNN’s Chris Cillizza made the level that there is purpose to be skeptical of the authors’ motives. Stein, a former New York City Council president, endorsed Donald Trump in 2016. In the meantime, Schoen had labored for former Republican and New York Metropolis Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“A couple of instances—President Biden’s low approval score, doubts over his capacity to run for re-election at eighty two, Vice President Kamala Harris’s unpopularity, and the absence of any other robust Democrat to lead the ticket in 2024—have created a management vacuum in the birthday celebration, which Mrs. Clinton viably might fill,” the article states. “She is already in an superb place to develop into the 2024 Democratic nominee.”

Of the authors, Cillizza argues, “Their backgrounds will have to offer you pause a couple of) their intentions and b) their analysis of the state of the Democratic Party and the 2024 field.”

Benjamin Hart in New York Journal notes that this isn’t the Wall Street Journal’s first time pushing this narrative. In 2018, Stein co-authored some other piece, revealed around the similar time within the midterm election cycle as his present one, declaring, “Hillary Will Run Again.” Hillary clearly didn’t run again in 2020.

So, why is the story getting so much traction? Fox’s John Roberts could have given away the game previous in the day when ending a phase on the article.
