Fox News host Lawrence Jones accused Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) of “keeping up the agenda of the Republican Celebration” through opposing Home Minority Chief Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid for Speaker of the House.
For the time being, McCarthy does now not have the 218 votes needed to assert the gavel in the lower congressional chamber as at least five House Republicans, including Rosendale, have mentioned they’re going to no longer back McCarthy for Speaker within the upcoming GOP-managed Home, for you to be sworn in on Tuesday.
On Fox & Friends Weekend on Sunday, Rosendale mentioned that McCarthy has blown his likelihood to be Speaker.
“We gave Kevin McCarthy alternatives over the past two years to display leadership abilities whether or not it used to be the [continuing resolution], the [National Defense Authorization Act], the so-called infrastructure invoice, we put him able the place he can have negotiated some widespread sense reforms, and he failed on every measure,” he mentioned. “We offered him, many people did, with rule amendments that we wanted to take a look at and enforce months in the past and he refused to speak with us –”
Jones interjected and mentioned, “I’m sorry, I’ve received limited time with you, but you said you introduced him all of these completely different proposals, but you best have every other alternative which is Hakeem Jeffries.”
Jeffries will be the subsequent Home Minority Chief, the first black congressional chief of any birthday party.
Jones again interrupted Rosendale and requested him if a Speaker Jeffries would push ahead agenda objects Rosendale cares about together with fiscal accountability and border safety.
Rosendale took exception to Jones’ premise.
“Lawrence, you’re pushing a false premise. To begin with, Hakeem Jeffries isn’t going to be Speaker of the Home,” he mentioned. “Which six Republicans are going to vote for Hakeem Jeffries, ok? It’s just no longer going to occur. You’re falling into a huge lure.”
Jones mentioned that individuals who wish to challenge McCarthy for Speaker don’t have the votes and that McCarthy obtained a majority of votes through the House GOP convention to be their nominee to hold onto the gavel. Rosendale countered that McCarthy didn’t get the 218 wanted to secure a majority.
“Your caucus did something behind closed doors and chosen a candidate, and it seems like you five are the one ones protecting up the agenda of the Republican Birthday Celebration,” stated Jones.
“That’s just a false premise,” Rosendale shot back.
“Do you feel like you’re doing a disservice to your voters at the moment, sir?” asked Jones.
Rosendale again accused Jones of constructing “a false premise.”
