Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume said that despite one of the best efforts of “Trump world,” Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is “a longshot” to turn into the next Senate Republican chief.
Republicans retook control of the Senate in last week’s elections, and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is stepping apart as the party’s chief in the higher chamber. Scott, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), and Sen. John Thune (SD) are all vying for the role. Elon Musk, who spent tons of of tens of millions to get President-SElect Donald Trump back in the White House, has called for Scott to get the position. The billionaire even referred to as Thune “the highest choice of Democrats.”
“You’ve obtained Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk and others who are supporting Senator Scott,” Hume cited on Monday’s Different Report on Fox News. “I in truth think Senator Scott’s more or less a longshot. The reason is that, for example, he used to be head of the Republican Nationwide Senatorial Committee within the ’21-’22 election cycle, raised a ton of cash. As you may bear in mind, Republicans had a horrific end in these midterm elections. Understand that the crimson wave was once supposed to come back? It never broke.”
Scott took warmth throughout that cycle. In September 2022, Fox News host Martha MacCallum confronted the senator over how Senate Republicans have been spending cash.
“And there was once a lot of questions about where all that cash went, why it was once all spent so early within the process, and the way a lot of it used to be spent by way of Scott to raise himself,” Hume persevered. “And I don’t think he’s with reference to quite a few senators. And I feel this force from Trump world to give a boost to him is likely to backfire. Senators are jealous of their authority, their powers. They don’t like to be told what to do. And I think that the other two candidates are more likely to win. I couldn’t tell you which one, however I feel Scott’s a longshot.”
