Nationwide safety attorney Bradley P. Moss stated he tried not to snigger when he heard former President Donald Trump declare a president can declassify documents purely by way of “pondering it.”

Trump sat down with Fox Information host Sean Hannity for an hour-long interview at Mar-a-Lago that touched on a couple of subjects, including the August FBI raid of his home where marketers found hundreds of presidency paperwork.

At one level, Trump told Hannity he used to be ready to declassify paperwork simply by “thinking about it.” Asked if a president has a process for declassification, Trump mentioned:

If you’re the president of the US, that you can declassify simply by saying, ‘It’s declassified,’ even via pondering it because you’re sending it to Mar-a-Lago or anywhere you’re sending it. And there doesn’t have to be a process. There can be a process but there doesn’t need to be. You’re the president.

On The Ultimate Word, host Lawrence O’Donnell played the clip and asked Moss for his thoughts. Moss answered:

Yeah, I saw that clip right prior to I got here on and I attempted not to burst out laughing. , seem to be, here’s the object with Donald Trump: every time he starts spouting off this rubbish, the one thing to remember is there’s at all times a tiny scintilla of truth buried within what he announcing.

The president, the incumbent president, has full unfettered discretion to declassify knowledge. That’s actual. He isn’t bound by a course of, that is technically proper.

He brought while there is not any set course of for declassifying documents, there are regulations presidents must abide via, equivalent to alerting the intelligence group.

Moss concluded, “If he is sitting there and thinking in his mind, hey, ‘I decided I’m going to declassify the secrets and techniques about Iran tonight,’ the NSA wants to know if it used to be their alerts intelligence, or the CIA wants to grasp.”
