Legendary sportscaster Greg Gumbel died on Friday at the age of seventy eight, his domestic stated in a commentary.

The longtime NFL commentator and CBS Sports reporter  – who lined the whole lot from Super Bowls to Olympic situations – died following a combat with cancer, his household informed CBS Information in the following observation:

It’s with profound disappointment that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Greg Gumbel. He handed away peacefully surrounded by using much love after a brave fight with most cancers.  Greg approached his illness like one would are expecting he would, with stoicism, grace, and positivity.

He leaves in the back of a legacy of love, concept and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports activities broadcast trade; and his iconic voice won’t ever be forgotten.

Greg’s reminiscence will endlessly be treasured by means of his domestic, dearest friends, colleagues and all who liked him.  — Marcy & Michelle Gumbel.

Gumbel was the older brother of veteran NBC reporter and sportscaster Bryant Gumbel. He was born on Could 3, 1946, in New Orleans however he was once raised in Chicago.

A CBS Sports biography for the late commentator reads:

Gumbel labored for CBS Sports activities from October 1989 through May just 1994. He hosted THE NFL TODAY, the Community’s NFL pre-recreation, halftime and submit-game studio exhibit (1990-93, 2004-05), together with Tremendous Bowl XXVI (1992), as well as Super Bowl XLVII (2013) and Super Bowl 50 (2016). He served as primetime anchor of CBS Sports’ protection of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games and as co-anchor of the Network’s weekday-morning declares of the 1992 Olympic Iciness video Games.

Gumbel also served as host of the Community’s protection of “Speedweeks” from Daytona International Speedway in 1999, as well as host/play-via-play announcer for the Faculty World Sequence (1989-93 and 2000-02).
