Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson hit again at Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) on Tuesday during the 1/3 day of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on her nomination.
Hawley asked Jackson if she had any “feel sorry about” over sentencing Wesley Hawkins, who used to be convicted of distributing and possessing kid pornography, to 3 months behind bars.
“Do you be apologetic about it or not?” requested Hawley.
Jackson spoke back, “Senator, what I feel sorry about is that in a listening to about my qualifications to be a justice on the Supreme Courtroom, we’ve spent plenty of time specializing in this small subset of my sentences and I attempted to explain that repeatedly–”
Hawley cut her off and requested, “You remorseful about that we’re focusing for your instances?”
“No,” Jackson answered. “I’m speaking about the truth that you’re speaking about seven… very serious instances … a few of which involve habits that I sentence folks to 25-30 years.”
Hawley interrupted and, appearing frustrated, asked why she gave three months within the case.
This used to be no longer the primary time Hawley has raised the issue of Jackson’s sentencing in youngster pornography cases as the two went back and forth about the difficulty on Tuesday. Jackson has come under fireplace from GOP senators for her past sentences in such cases.
If established, Jackson would become the first Black girl to serve on the Supreme Court, succeeding retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, whom she clerked for.
