Probably the most hit songs of 2013, Lorde’s “Royals,” has been adapted for all you journo-nerds in the market. Aaron Edwards, associate editor for BreakingNews.com and NBC News Digital, recorded a version of the song that’s less about the existence of the rich and well-known and more about journalism and the role of the internet in breaking information in the brand new generation.
The tune serves as a lamentation of sorts from the standard outdated guards of journalism, with references to “site visitors envy,” “topping Reddit,” being “in love with 1970s,” and the sincere belief: “we’re just dropping cash”; to not mention the mournful refrain.
And we’ll by no means go viral (viral)
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of distro ain’t for us
We crave a unique more or less buzz
Let me be your paper (paper)
That you may fold and lift me
And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule
Let me reside that myth
Hearken to the whole music beneath:
