Longtime WaPo Political Columnist Greg Sargent Is Leaving After Taking Voluntary Buyout

Greg Sargent, a longtime political columnist for The Washington Publish and creator of the paper’s Plum Line weblog, is leaving after taking a voluntary buyout.

Semafor media reporter Max Tani tweeted a screenshot of the e-mail that was sent to Sargent’s colleagues asserting his departure. In the message, WaPo management credited Sargent for having “helped legions of Publish Opinions readers in finding be mindful and community all the way through confusing political occasions” in his columns and weblog posts, “which delivered a furious % of posts providing incisive coverage of the American political scene.”

About an hour later, Sargent followed up with his personal publish on The Platform Previously Known as Twitter.

“Neatly, looks like the information is out: That is my last week at @washingtonpost,” he wrote, explaining that he was “supplied a voluntary buyout and I frequent it.”

In October, an inside email to WaPo group of workers introduced that the paper’s projections for site visitors, subscriptions, and merchandising had been “overly confident” and it was once offering buyouts to “roughly 240 folks” in an effort to keep away from layoffs.

It’s not known yet what Sargent’s next steps might be, or if he has decided but. He concluded through thanking his colleagues, writing, “My deepest because of the entire nice folks at @PostOpinions and the remainder of the paper — it was a privilege and an idea to work with all of you. More news soon!”

Any other high profile WaPo reporter to take the buyout supply was once media reporter Paul Farhi, who introduced on Dec. 22 he was doing so and had “a few plans” that integrated “freelancing to the Submit.”
