MSNBC host Chris Matthews identified what he characterized as a strain of hypocrisy within the Republican Party in relation to “birtherism.” Matthews claimed the GOP regularly and erroneously charged President Barack Obama was once ineligible to be President of the Untied States because he was once born outside the united states of america. Matthews questioned whether Republicans will show themselves to be inconsistent if they do not stage the identical charge against Canadian-born Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
“Do you suppose that Ted Cruz, who used to be born – and nobody denies this, now not an accusation which is absurd, Obama was born in Kenya or somewhere, Indonesia – he was once born in reality in Canada to an American mom,” Matthews stated to The Grio editor Joy-Ann Reid. “And Obama used to be born — and all and sundry knew it, no person’s ever challenged this — to an American mother.”
“Will they then adopt the same means they took to any individual born in a foreign country – they claimed, in the case of Obama – to someone who was once actually born in a foreign country, born in another country, this is Ted Cruz,” Matthews continued. “Will they assault him as some sort of interloper who’s not eligible to run for president?”
Reid answered that it was imaginable for the reason that right began to disqualify Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) from the presidency when he “stepped out of line” on the issue of immigration reform.
“Only situational ethics,” agreed Huffington Submit Washington Bureau Chief Ryan Grim.
