Chris Matthews opened Friday’s Hardball calling out the GOP for a “new low”: former Vice President Dick Cheney calling President Obama a liar. Matthews used to be disgusted through how Cheney would just throw that phrase in the market and nobody would scold him for pronouncing it, and suspected the shortage of decorum surrounding Obama in particular is because of his race.

Years after Joe Wilson used to be widely condemned for shouting “You lie!” during a presidential deal with, no one batted a watch at Cheney when he made the identical bold statement (albeit in a much much less formal setting). Matthews didn’t think this used to be as a result of anything policy-associated within the slightest.

“Is that this, calling the president a liar, the new language of American politics, or is it a language particularly handled for the u . s .’s first African-American president? Is that this president of a lower caste than these elected to the workplace prior to him, or do these on the correct consider he even is the legitimate President of america?”

Matthews bemoaned the truth that Cheney appears to suppose he’s above the “code of appreciate” different previous leaders have adopted when talking about their successors. Howard Fineman argued the language is principally about him boosting his daughter Liz Cheney‘s Senate race in tea birthday party circles, whereas David Corn said Cheney should be the final individual to scold somebody else for fibbing.

The “lie” Cheney mentioned used to be Obama’s promise that if folks preferred their well being plans, they coud keep them, which became out to now not be precisely the reality.
