Lourdes Maldonado López

Reporter Lourdes Maldonado López was killed in Tijuana over the weekend, the third killing of a journalist Mexico has considered in the remaining month.

The Baja California state prosecutor’s workplace released a commentary to the media confirming López was once found useless in her automotive from a gunshot wound. Her demise follows the murders of photojournalist Alfonso Margarito Martínez Esquivel in Tijuana, and Jose Luis Gamboa, director of the web information web page Inforegio, who used to be wounded in Veracruz.

López was once recognized for overlaying corruption and politics, and he or she simply gained a labor lawsuit in opposition to news outlet Primer Sistema de Noticias, where she previously worked. The outlet is owned by former Baja California governor Jaime Bonilla, and López claimed over the last few years that the organization unfairly disregarded her and refused to pay her wages.

In 2019, López appealed to Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador whereas her case was once being litigated and asked for his improve “as a result of I worry for my lifestyles.”

“I can’t do the rest with out your assist, Mr. President,” she said.

CNN notes that Bonilla, an ally to López Obrador, has claimed that he had a “just right relationship” with López, that he didn’t take note why Lopez asked for presidency safety, and “there was once by no means a danger, not even an argument together with her.”

Baja California governor Marina del Pilar Ávila released a commentary denouncing Lopez’s homicide and writing that her dying “is roofed because the journalists are devoted to the seek for the reality.”

“This attack was once now not only towards Lourdes, however against our complete society,” she wrote. “We’re going to put all of the potential of the State in doing justice.”
