Axios media reporter Sara Fischer joined CNN’s The Lead on Friday to speak about Elon Musk’s recent tweet blaming “activist groups pressuring advertisers” for a “huge drop in earnings” for Twitter.
Fischer spoke with anchor John Berman, who started the segment by noting Musk’s comments.
“Twitter’s hot mess is our tech lead. Major layoffs these days, however new owner Elon Musk didn’t mention that in a tweet. Instead, he complained about cash. Twitter has had an immense drop in revenue, he writes, because of activist teams pressuring advertisers, something he calls extremely tousled. Let’s herald CNN media analyst Sarah Fisher. Sara, what’s Musk talking about right here and what are advertisers say?” Berman asked.
“Yeah. Neatly, advertisers are expressing a number of frustration. Those activist groups that you simply mentioned, groups like Shade of Trade, the NAACP, are arguing that Twitter has transform extra filled with hate speech prior to now few days,” Fischer started, including:
But really, what advertisers are frustrated about, John and I’ve been on the cellphone with them for the earlier few days, is Elon Musk’s personal conduct, tweeting out that article that had misinformation in regards to the attack on Paul Pelosi.
One of the crucial other issues that he’s executed has made folks assume that he doesn’t take model security, hate speech, violence critically on the platform.
“So that you can the layoffs. Our buddy Donie O’Sullivan bought the email sent to Twitter employees, telling them to stay dwelling, keep dwelling and stay up for an e mail lately, informing them of their fate. Part of it says, quote, If your employment just isn’t impacted, you’ll obtain a notification by way of your Twitter e-mail,” Berman then defined.
“In case your employment is impacted, you’ll obtain a notification with subsequent steps by means of your personal e-mail. So what are you listening to concerning the course of and just how many workers were let go?” he asked Fischer.
“Oh, it’s been complete chaos. So out of the 7500 Twitter employees, around half of of them, around 3700 were let go. And John, probably the most teams which were impacted are those that advertisers in point of fact care about. Groups that work on things like belief and security. However Donie’s reporting is correct,” she responded, including:
Quite A lot of the communique about layoffs has been so chaotic. Some of the things we noticed ultimate evening was once that Twitter customers have been slacking every other messages announcing, it’s been great working with you for the earlier 5 years or ten years. And so they concept if they don’t get Slack get admission to after middle of the night, that’s when they knew that there could be cut.
“Wow. What a day it should have been for all of these folks. Tons of, lots of employees. Sarah Fischer, thank you a lot,” Berman said concluding the interview.
