The New York Times announced on Tuesday that its media columnist Ben Smith is leaving the paper to start a brand new international information group.
Prior to becoming a member of the Occasions in 2020, Smith served as editor in chief of Buzzfeed for eight years and used to be a reporter for Politico ahead of that.
Smith had got criticism for conserving inventory options in Buzzfeed, a holdover from his employment there whereas reporting extensively on American media — which some noticed as a potential warfare of pastime. Salon published an article in October 2021 titled, “Why Hasn’t the New York Times Made Ben Smith Promote His BuzzFeed Options But?”
While on the New York Times, Smith published an editorial questioning the business practices of Ounces media, which ultimately resulted in the company announcing it will shut – even if it has when you consider that limped on.
Smith shall be joined with the aid of the previous chief govt of Bloomberg Media, Justin Smith, in his new venture.
Justin Smith offered some detail about their subsequent transfer on Twitter, writing, “I’ve determined to pursue a personal dream, and a market possibility, to launch a brand new more or less world information media company that serves unbiased journalism to a really international audience.”
