On Thursday, Harris sat down with CNN’s Dana Bash for her first interview considering the fact that changing into the Democratic presidential nominee. At one point, Bash requested the vice president about some contemporary comments by using former President Donald Trump.
“I didn’t be aware of she used to be black except various years ago when she came about to turn Black,” Trump informed a gathering of Black journalists remaining month. “And now she wants to be referred to as Black”
Harris was born to an Indian mother and a Jamaican father. Ergo, she is Indian and Black.
“I need to ask you about your opponent, Donald Trump,” Bash mentioned to Harris. “I used to be slightly bit surprised. Individuals could be stunned to listen to that you’ve got never interacted with him, met him face-to-face. That’s gonna alternate soon. But what I wanna ask you about is what he mentioned closing month. He prompt that you just ‘took place’ to show Black just lately for political purposes, questioning a core part of your identification.”
“Standard, drained playbook,” Harris responded. “Subsequent query, please.”
In other phrases, as so much as Trump has been looking to goad her, the vp did not take the bait.
On Friday evening, Politico revealed an article about the second, titled, “Harris sidesteps spotlight in relation to her identity.” But the tweet Politico despatched to market it was once extremely deceptive and mentioned Harris had dodged a query about herself.
“‘Subsequent question’: Harris evades questions about her id,” read the tweet, which elicited multiple Community Notes.
That framing spark off a firestorm.
