When Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson won his first Oscar ultimate weekend, the Very Best Documentary Feature award for his directorial debut Summer time of Soul, his moment in the spotlight was once overshadowed via Will Smith’s über-viral slap throughout presenter Chris Rock’s face. So when the drummer and joint frontman for the Roots took the stage at the sixty fourth Annual Grammy Awards Sunday in Las Vegas, he made certain to say about how winning an award like this is a “different moment for any person” — and also joked that everyone needed to remain 500 feet faraway from him.
“All right, I’m gonna current this award,” he commenced, “and I belief that you simply folks will stay 500 ft faraway from me.”
“Just taking part in,” he stated with a smile as the group laughed.
Questlove then introduced up the notorious incident from the earlier weekend.
