An Orthodox Rabbi at Columbia University and Barnard Faculty warned Jewish college students to depart campus and return dwelling over pro-Palestinian protests.

Rabbi Elie Buechler, director of OU-LJIC at Columbia, advised college students in a WhatsApp message despatched to a whole bunch prior to Passover to depart “as soon as that you can think of” unless the protests conclude. He accused protesters of aiding Hamas, calling it “horrific and tragic” whereas noting the university can not assure the safety of Jewish college students.

“The events of the last few days, especially ultimate night, have made it clear that Columbia College’s Public Security and the NYPD cannot guarantee Jewish students’ safety within the face of extreme antisemitism and anarchy,” Buechler wrote in a message shared via CNN’s Jake Tapper on X.

“It deeply pains me to assert that I would strongly suggest you come back residence as quickly as that you can imagine and stay home unless the truth in and round campus has dramatically improved,” the Rabbi says within the shocking message.

Buechler stated the text was once despatched based on “horrific” videos displaying “protesters on campus calling for Jews to be killed, just off campus Jews being yelled at to ‘go back to Poland’, text messages I’m getting constantly from Jewish students about how risky they feel,” Tapper pronounced.

The rabbi concluded, “It isn’t our job as Jews to verify our own safety on campus. Nobody will have to must suffer this stage of hatred, let alone at college.”

Over the last week, tons of of pro-Palestinian protesters have set up an encampment on campus calling for an finish to the struggle between Hamas and Israel in Gaza. Students and native activists have labeled the protest the “Gaza Harmony Encampment.”

The university has suspended three students for their involvement within the protests while police arrested over one hundred individuals on Thursday, including Isra Hirsi, the daughter Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has up to now been below fire on multiple events for antisemitic tropes and language.
