Former President Donald Trump has named his selections to run the Republican National Committee, but one committee member stated he’s “seeking to alternate the principles” all the way through the GOP main season.
CNN’s Dana Bash interviewed Henry Barbour of the RNC to talk about the news that current RNC chair Ronna McDaniel would step down next month. Bash asked about Trump’s choices to run the RNC — Michael Whatley, chair of North Carolina’s Republican Birthday Party, and daughter-in-legislation Lara Trump — and Barbour didn’t seem too keen about both of them:
Barbour: Well, it’s a bad precedent. And I say that as a result of I feel Donald Trump is leaping the gun ahead of the main is over to begin to influence issues at the RNC. He’s presupposed to get a majority of the delegates wrapped up, and we’ve simplest voted in 4 states. And voters deserve so that you can have a vote and a say, that’s the method that we’ve in place and that we’ve had in location for many years. And in effect, Donald Trump is making an attempt to change the foundations in the midst of the sport.
But I’m now not satisfied about Ronna leaving. But I don’t think there’s any question that Michael Whatley and Lara Trump will get elected at the meeting.
Bash: Are you satisfied that they are going to get elected?
Barbour: Well, I’m no longer happy that — and because of this I offered this decision dealing with neutrality — it says the RNC should keep neutral through the principle. And it will have to, and we shouldn’t have a campaign dictating to us whereas the primary remains to be occurring. There’s another candidate running, and Donald Trump, while he has a big lead and which I’m now not blind to, the RNC has a job to be neutral, and at the least until we’ve got a presumptive nominee.
The resolution to which Barbour is referring states that the RNC should stay neutral throughout the party’s presidential major and that the RNC would no longer pay Trump’s criminal payments. Lara Trump said that she believed voters would make stronger the RNC paying her better half’s father’s legal bills — which voters are technically currently paying — and that “each single penny” coming into the RNC would go towards his campaign.
