Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) took the floor of the U.S. Senate on Thursday and ramped up drive on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by calling for new elections in Israel.
Schumer referred to as for a two-state resolution within the Middle East to create a lasting peace in the region and blasted those that make the “unfounded, absurd and offensive claims” that Israelis are “colonizers” in their “ancestral fatherland.”
Schumer said Netanyahu “all too steadily bowed to the demands of extremists” and added that “It has become clear to me the Netanyahu coalition no longer suits the wishes of Israel after October 7.”
”The arena has changed — radically — considering the fact that then, and the Israeli individuals are being stifled right now through a governing vision that’s stuck up to now,” he declared.
The Senate’s prime Democrat went on to name Netanyahu an “drawback to peace” at a time when President Joe Biden’s reinforce for Israel has angered many on his left flank and led to protests.
“I have known High Minister Netanyahu for a very long time. Whereas we’ve got vehemently disagreed on many events, I will at all times respect his exceptional bravery for Israel on the battlefield as a youthful man. I consider in his heart his best possible precedence is the safety of Israel. However, I also consider Top Minister Netanyahu has lost his means through permitting his political survival to take precedence over the most effective pursuits of Israel,” he argued, noting Netanyahu’s long and scandal-plagued time in place of job.
Schumer also ripped the present governing coalition in Israel, announcing Netanyahu “has put himself in coalition with a ways-right extremists like Ministers [Bezalel] Smotrich and [Itamar] Ben-Gvir, and in consequence, he has been too prepared to tolerate the civilian toll in Gaza, which is pushing give a boost to for Israel international to historic lows.”
“Israel cannot live on if it becomes a pariah,” he mentioned.
