President Joe Biden mentioned at a fundraiser on Tuesday that he’s “not certain” he could be working for a 2nd term if Donald Trump weren’t looking to reclaim the White Home.

“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m no longer sure I’d be operating,” Biden told attendees at a fundraiser.

“A shocking admission through President Biden,” CNN’s Jake Tapper said on The Lead. “He now says if Donald Trump was not running for president in 2024, he’s ‘now not certain’ that he would even be in the race. Those comments as of late at a fundraiser in Boston.”

Tapper welcomed CNN political director David Chalian, who said Biden “tends to disclose his inside-most ideas” when he’s at the back of closed doors.

“What we’re seeing here’s a actual, certainly defined reason for Biden pursuing reelection regardless of his present political standing, which is not that great in the polls, clearly, the dialog about his age, and challenge amongst Democrats if he’s the best candidate to put ahead,” Chalian said, continuing:

What Joe Biden is making clear with these feedback, he clearly thinks — as a result of he mentioned, also, “Democrats can’t let Trump win,” as part of his comments — he thinks he’s the one best possible Democrat to be able to defeat Donald Trump, as a result of he did so as soon as. “Is this the kind of admission a candidate must be making?” Tapper requested.

“It naturally will provide Donald Trump a possibility here to talk about Joe Biden being more focused on him than the rest,” Chalian said. “However I think if Joe Biden’s very important mission this time is starting to piece again his coalition of voters, a few of which he has seen a diminishing beef up — reminding these voters of the contrast with Donald Trump, and that Donald Trump is the goal right here, could assist rally the troops, if you will.”
