Legendary information anchor Ted Koppel shared some harsh criticism of the news media on Friday relating to its protection of former President Donald Trump.

The previous Nightline host joined Dan Abrams Reside on NewsNation to talk about bias in the media, which Koppel expressed his displeasure with. Koppel explained that while he believes there may be plenty of great reporting in lately’s day and age, he want to see opinions on the opinion web page.

Host Dan Abrams, who’s the founder of Mediate, asked Koppel how he views the current media landscape by way of reminding him of a comment he made in 2019, when Koppel mentioned:

I simply wish they wouldn’t step into that category… It bothers me when I see them shedding one of the standards that at all times used to keep a wall between opinion and news coverage.

Abrams requested, “And as you already know, the response to that from some would be that Donald Trump is different. That he must be coated in a different way by using the media than others. What do you make of that?”

Koppel opined that all public figures should be handled equally via the media:

Well, I believe for those who start drawing those distinctions, it’s very difficult to understand where you stop drawing the honour. Do you are feeling that way about anyone else in politics? Are we going to start selecting up our morning newspaper to peer who is in and who is out, in the case of the information coverage? Again, there’s an area for that within the op-ed section. I don’t find it irresistible on the front web page.
