Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz says that Republicans “beating their chest” about running for president in 2024 “whatever” Donald Trump does will not be “tethered to reality.” But if Trump doesn’t run …

Talking with author and journalist David Drucker of the Washington Examiner on Saturday at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Sen. Cruz talked about why he hasn’t said he’s operating in 2024, and who he thinks will be operating within the GOP presidential major.

The quick answer? Everyone. If Trump isn’t.

Drucker prefaced his query by using list earlier examples of Ted Cruz stepping out of the standard Republican course to celebration leadership, together with his 2016 government shutdown battle to “power President Barack Obama to defund” Obamacare, and Cruz running for president with “maybe 5% national title I.D.” in 2016.

“Now you’re waiting on Donald Trump to decide whether or not you wish to have to do it again,” Drucker said of a 2nd presidential run. “For someone who has by no means waited for any one, why are you waiting now?”

“Oh, look, all and sundry’s waiting to peer what Trump decides. And the truth is, he’s going to do what he needs to do,” stated Cruz. “I don’t comprehend if he’s going to run for president. Nobody else does either.”

Cruz stated that “one of the vital prerogatives” of being a former president is that Trump “gets to come to a decision.”

“He will get to make his own determination. Nothing you say, nothing I say is going to persuade him, I believe, pro or con. He’s going to make his own choice and the remainder of the world will react to it,” Cruz stated. “I think we’ll to find out sometime subsequent year.”

Cruz then grew to become his attention to any Republicans who usually are not ready for that call.

“There are some Republicans who’re beating their chest and operating around announcing, ‘I’m working whatever. It doesn’t subject what Trump does,’” he mentioned. “That’s utter garbage. They’re all mendacity.”

The crowd laughed at that as he endured.

“Like, it does matter! Like — you’re now not tethered to reality if you assume it doesn’t make a distinction whether or not he chooses to run or no longer,” Cruz argued.
