Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton claimed on Thursday that former President Donald Trump “fully cooperated” with the Division of Justice in its investigation of Trump’s retention of presidency documents.
The Washington Put up printed a piece of writing on Wednesday citing Trump advisers who claimed the former president “time and again rejected the advice from attorneys and advisers who urged him to cooperate and instead took the advice of Tom Fitton” and others “who advised him he could legally preserve the paperwork and must fight the Justice Department.”
During an interview on Newsmax, Thursday, host Rob Schmitt asked Fitton for his response to the article.
“The so called Trump advisers, what are they pronouncing? That Trump obstructed justice? It’s absurd,” Fitton responded. “Clearly that isn’t the case. I don’t understand who’s telling the Washington Publish. In reality, Trump cooperated, proper?”
Fitton argued:
He grew to become these documents over to start with of the 12 months, those 15 boxes, and then they pressured him additional, they issued a subpoena, and he spoke back to the subpoena. They gave them more paperwork. Now the objection is that, well he didn’t search properly or hid paperwork from his own lawyers. , I didn’t assume there used to be any persuasive proof of that, so Trump totally cooperated. So the entire thesis of the story, that someway he didn’t flip documents over and was once indicted, is false.
Suggesting that what the Division of Justice did to Trump was “entrap him in a wildly abusive manner,” Fitton stated, “If these are Trump advisers, he wants new advisers.”
Trump pleaded no longer guilty to 37 counts over his retention of government documents on Tuesday, including conspiracy to obstruct justice.
