Nationwide Security Consultant Mike Waltz made a surprising public disclosure on Thursday, telling Fox Information that a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine would nearly unquestionably involve the cession of the Donbas region to Russia.
President Donald Trump has insisted he will deliver an end to the war that began in February 2022 when Russia invaded its neighbor to the west. Russian President Vladimir Putin has consistently said the intention of the invasion is the elimination of President Volodymyr Zelensky and his executive, in addition to Ukraine’s demilitarization.
On Thursday, Putin – at the least in the interim – looked as if it would throw cold water on a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the Trump administration.
Later within the day on Fox News, Sean Hannity asked Waltz what a possible deal might entail. The host estimated that the Donbas area in jap Ukraine, which is occupied through Russia, could be given to Putin as part of a peace deal:
HANNITY: If I had been to think about how this deal unfolds, it’s gonna be the rare earth mineral deal, a component that retains U.S. involvement and presence in Ukraine. Maybe European troops could be in Ukraine as smartly. I might imagine that Ukraine being a part of NATO just isn’t gonna happen, and I might imagine that components – maybe the Donbas region specifically or areas which can be heavily populated through folks from Russia – that would go to Putin in any negotiated settlement. Am I improper in my conjecture right here?”
WALTZ: Sean, no surprise, you’re no longer fallacious in any of that. And what’s necessary is that we’re discussing all of those things with either side. We’re having those discussions with our counterparts, with the Russians. We are having these discussions with our counterparts with the Ukrainians, and we’re pushing both sides at the side of President Trump, the dealmaker-in-chief who is set to finish this warfare.
Hannity adopted up by means of hailing Trump and slamming Democrats.
“What took place to the birthday party that when was singing, ‘All we’re saying as a result of give peace a chance’? They seem to have disappeared,” the host concluded.
