President Donald Trump gave a confusing response on Wednesday when requested whether Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth must resign, pointing out that Hegseth “had nothing to do with” the airstrike plans that Hegseth specified by a compromised workforce chat in Sign, an encrypted messaging app.
Hours later, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes expressed utter disbelief at the president’s response.
On Monday, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic printed a jaw-dropping story explaining that he was once added to a group chat with high Trump officials through National Safety Consultant Mike Waltz. withIn the chat, Hegseth detailed plans for airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, which have been ultimately carried out.
“I cannot quote from this replace, or from sure other subsequent texts,” Goldberg wrote. “What I will say, as a way to illustrate the surprising recklessness of this Signal conversation, is that the Hegseth post contained operational details of coming near near strikes on Yemen, together with information about pursuits, weapons the U.S. could be deploying, and assault sequencing.”
On Wednesday’s All In, Hayes teed up Trump’s answer to a query from a reporter within the Oval Place of business hours prior.
“Donald Trump, once once more, truly seems to be just profoundly confused about the entire thing – what Sign is, who’s involved, what took place, and particularly, as to why Hegseth was once being criticized at all,” he mentioned, teasing the clip.
“Must Secretary Hegseth consider his position over the Signal–?” a reporter requested Trump.
“Hegseth is doing a great job,” Trump interrupted. “He had nothing to do with this. Hegseth? How do you deliver Hegseth into it? He had nothing to do. Appear, seem to be, it’s all a witch hunt.”
The snippet ended and Hayes opted to respond to Trump’s question.
“Well, I’ll let you know the way you deliver Hegseth into it,” the host mentioned. “Hegseth was once on the workforce chat and he texted categorized assault plans to a bunch of individuals on an unsecured channel that integrated a reporter at The Atlantic the use of a personal messaging app that leaves his communications liable to overseas adversaries. In order that’s why, Sir, Pete Hegseth is involved. Just try to preserve up. Everyone but the president of the United States does seem to be aware the stakes right here.”
