“Andrea, I’ve spent the morning going via those tutorial standards, the criteria for educating African American history in Florida faculties,” Robinson said on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Experiences. “Brand new requirements, sure, I take into account DeSantis didn’t write them, however he has defended them — his board of schooling wrote them. And my conclusion is, that Vice President Harris and our editorial board are proper right here. ” Robinson stated.
The Washington Publish Editorial Board printed an op-ed in Monday’s paper announcing DeSantis used to be “whitewashing slavery.” Robinson continued:
As a result of now not handiest in that passage, but in different passages as well, these requirements appear, to me, to be trying to, type of contextualize American slavery within the improper context. To normalize it, truly. To roughly say, ‘folks at other instances had slavery.’ And so they don’t in my estimation, properly explain the distinctive horror that used to be American chattel slavery. It was once unique within the history of the sector. The way in which it used to be achieved, the dimensions on which it was practiced, the brutality, the hereditary nature of slavery, the racial nature of slavery here. It is a unique horror. My rule in writing columns has at all times been, by no means evaluate anything to the Holocaust, and never examine anything to American slavery, because they have been each unique horrors. And these requirements spoil that rule.
At a press conference, DeSantis known as Kamala Harris‘ observation condemning the curriculum as “ridiculous” and “totally outrageous.”
“These are essentially the most robust standards in African American history, almost definitely anywhere in the u . s . a .. She’s going to come down to the state of Florida and take a look at to chirp and try to demagogue…You must speak to them about it,” DeSantis stated concerning the Florida board of schooling. “I mean, I didn’t do it, I wasn’t fascinated with it.”
