Vice President Kamala Harris comforted a voter who broke down sobbing as she shared about her not too long ago deceased immigrant mom, who she mentioned didn’t get correct care on account of her standing.

Harris has been on what has been described as a media blitz this week, with a large 60 Minutes interview, prolonged appearances on Alex Cooper’s fashionable Name Her Daddy podcast, ABC’s The View, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and more.

On Thursday night, VP Harris participated in a Univision Noticias city corridor adventure entitled “Latinos Ask… Kamala Harris Responds,” right through which she fielded questions from undecided Latino voters.

Issues became emotional quick, as the 2d query was once from a girl named Yvette Castillo, who acquired emotional while asking her query and got a lengthy and compassionate response from the vice president:

YVETTE CASTILLO: You and I have one thing in popular. We each misplaced our mom.

VP KAMALA HARRIS: Oh…

YVETTE CASTILLO: And I’m an American citizen born to 2 Mexican parents. They were here earlier than I was once even born. They have labored their entire lives. However with the way immigration regulations change over time. I was only ready to lend a hand my dad get his legal standing squared away. However no longer my mom. My mom handed away simply six weeks ago.

VP KAMALA HARRIS: I’m so sorry.

YVETTE CASTILLO: And he or she was once by no means, ever able to get the type of care and service that she needed or deserved. Sorry.

VP KAMALA HARRIS: Take your time. Take your time.

YVETTE CASTILLO: So my query for you is, what are your plans, or do you will have plans to fortify that subgroup of immigrants who have been here their entire lives, or most of them, and must live and die in the shadows?

VP KAMALA HARRIS: I’m so sorry for you.

YVETTE CASTILLO: Thank you.

VP KAMALA HARRIS: You need to take into account that your mom as she lived.

YVETTE CASTILLO: Mm-hmm.

VP KAMALA HARRIS: I have–. I have enough of a sense about your power that it most likely comes from her to understand she would wish you to keep in mind that her as she lived and now not as she died. K?

YVETTE CASTILLO: Mm-hmm.

VP KAMALA HARRIS: So let’s take it one step at a time. Your folks had been here for years, it seems like. And your father used to be able to earn his pathway to citizenship, but your mother used to be now not. And I’m going to assume it’s because a part of the problem is that we do have a damaged immigration device.

And I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through. I’m so sorry for what you’ve been via. And, you know, my mother came to the United States at the age of 19. She was once by way of herself, came on my own by means of herself. She raised my sister and me, Maya. And I do know what it is prefer to have a hard working mom who loves you and to lose that.

However I do know that her spirit is alive. I know her spirit is alive. And will you tell me her name? And let’s speak her identify.
