MSNBC host Pleasure Reid was stunned by Rep. Eli Crane’s (R-AZ) reference to “colored people” all the way through a debate on the ground of the House of Representatives.

Right through a debate with former Congressional Black Caucus chair Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) over an amendment to the Nationwide Safety Authorization Act, Crane mentioned that “my amendment has nothing to do with whether or no longer colored individuals or Black individuals or anybody can serve, good enough?”

“I’d like to be identified to have the phrases ‘coloured individuals’ stricken from the file. I find it offensive and really inappropriate. I’m inquiring for unanimous consent to take down the words of relating to me or any of my colleagues as ‘colored individuals,’” Beatty said, and the phrases have been after Crane tried to “amend” them.

On Thursday night time’s variation of MSNBC’s The ReidOut, the host performed the remarks, then shared a shocked reaction with MSNBC analyst David Jolly, a former Republican:

JOY REID: There’s a tremendous fight on the Republican facet about why they don’t like the theory of trying to recruit people of color who disproportionately already serve in the USA militia. Here’s what one Eli Crane, representative out of Arizona, had to say about that today.

REP. CRANE (video clip): Well, Mr. Chairman, although, that used to be unbelievably inspiring, my modification has nothing to do with whether or not or not coloured people or Black folks or any one can serve. oK. It has nothing to do with shade of the skin, any of that stuff.

JOY REID: Yeah. So that came about within the year of our Lord 2023. David, your thoughts?

DAVID JOLLY: Yeah. Joy And unsettling, I feel, for all people who just heard that Eli Crane, a freshman member of Congress recommended by way of Donald Trump, an election denier who tried to get his house state to decertify the Biden election. So that you do recognize where his non-public politics are. I feel the attention-grabbing thing is Congresswoman Beatty from Ohio asked to have these phrases afflicted.

JOY REID: She positive did!

DAVID JOLLY: Anyone who’s worked with the house for about 25 years. I did wonder when was once the remaining time in the congressional file the term colored individuals in reality seems? Since you would hope it could be 70 years in the past, 60 years sooner than, a long time ago. Congresswoman Beatty tonight in fact succeeded in having these words bothered from the Congressional document.
